Mojca Horvat, world class dancer and choreographer, held yesterday, at Belgrade’s Faculty for Sport and Physical Culture an audition for dancers who are to perform at the opening ceremony of the biggest sports event in 2009. ‘I am satisfied with what I saw at the audition. The young people I worked with showed a high level of dedication and, more importantly, resolve to work’, said Mojca Horvat.
Young students demonstrated dancing and acrobatic potential in the Great Hall of the Faculty.Focus is on the esthetics of sports movements, combined with jazz, elements of show programs, acrobatics and theatre and musical. Training dancers for the Universiade opening ceremony is a completely new challenge for Mojca Horvat. ‘This is truly a challenge; a new work dimension for me. I want to explore and define a way of representing the miracle of sports movement, especially movement we see and admire at the finish line. My intention is to raise it to a higher esthetic and rhythmic level, accompanied by music and extraordinary computerized animation.’
During yesterday’s audition there was no time for pause and the atmosphere was reminiscent of preparations for a Broadway musical. ‘Already we have started working because I like to be ready before the deadline. In April we will have intensive preparations so as to get the final structure of the ceremony as speedily as possible’, said Mojca Horvat.
