The 1st World University Boxing Championship took place in 2004 in Antalya, Turkey. Widely popular in Turkey, Russia and Asian countries the championship has travelled mainly to those regions. Boxing also featured as an optional sport at the Kazan 2013 Summer Universiade. In 2022, Boxing was part of the FISU University World Cup Combat Sports in Samsun (TUR). Combat Sports (with Boxing as a discipline) now return to a FISU World University Championship format.

The History of Boxing in FISU
The 1st World University Boxing Championship in 2004 in Antalya made boxing one of the youngest sports within the programme of the FISU World University Championships.
Attracting around a hundred of the best student boxers for the first four editions in such countries where boxing is one of the top sports as Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, the WUC Boxing is a top-level event that FISU will continue to develop.
