The highest step of both women's and men's podiums in Pessac bore red, white and blue!

Both the women’s and the men’s teams won the gold medals in Pessac in an incredible atmosphere. The Netherlands, Czechia, Brazil and Spain also finished on the podium.

Despite the air conditioned venues, the heatwave managed to find its way to the field of play thanks to the passion of the supporters. The finals were played on 27 June in a loud and festive atmosphere, the spectators cheering for the home teams who were both playing for gold.

the results

The first gold medal went to France’s women’s team, who never really left their opponents, the Netherlands, believe they could be crowned queens.

The Tricolores were already leading by three points at half time and managed to stay ahead winning the final by an impressive 42-28!

The Dutch had only lost to France by three points on their vers first game in Pessac on 20 June. They believed the final might be the right time to take their revenge, but the French were too strong.

They will travel back to the Netherlands with a beautiful silver medal and an individual trophy for Alysa Korterink.

The bronze medal game between Poland and Czechia was much tighter, with the latter claiming their medal by only four small points, 26-22.

The bronze medallists missed their biggest opportunity against France in the semis, losing only 31-29.

Poland aren’t going home empty-handed as Małgorzata Ciąćka won an individual award.

Only a couple of hours after their teammates were crowned queens, France men’s team took the university world crown by beating Brazil in another spectacular final. Can you believe only one point separated both teams when the referee blew his whistle for the last time? The final score: 35-34!

France also won two individual awards thanks to Ilan Lagarde and goalkeeper Graciel Quere.

Brazil had already met France in the group stage, losing to the Tricolores 32-28. They won all of their other games after that and will fly back with a well-deserved silver medal.

Luis Filipi Pereira Da Silva will also have his individual trophy to add to his luggage!

Spain beat Poland 32-28 in the bronze medal final. The Spaniards were one of the favourite teams for the title after gliding through their group stage. Only France managed to burst their bubble, beating them by one point in their semi-final (36-35).
