The last FISU World University Championship Cheerleading took place in Split, Croatia, in 2024.

After a small break, it is time for the second FISU World University Championship of the 2026 season. Get ready for glitter, pom-poms, music and a lot of fun!

Welcome to Gothenburg! Sweden’s second-largest city is known for its rich sporting culture. It is home to a variety of professional teams and regularly hosts prestigious international competitions.

Gothenburg is also a thriving academic hub, with major institutions such as the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology contributing to a large and active student population. This youthful energy and enthusiasm help create an engaging and lively atmosphere for both participants and spectators during events.

The official venue for the 2026 FISU World University Championships Cheerleading is the Kviberg Arena, a modern sports complex and that offers high-quality indoor facilities suitable for top-level international competitions.

This is third ever FISU Championship Cheerleading, with Lodz, Poland having hosted the inaugural event back in 2018 and Split, Croatia welcoming the best student-cheerleaders to Croatia in 2024.

The different disciplines

  • Coed (Premier & Elite) – 16-20 student-athletes per team – mixed gender
  • All Female (Premier & Elite) – 16-20 student-athletes per team
  • Pom – 16-20 student-athletes per team – mixed gender
  • Hip Hop – 16-20 student athletes per team – mixed gender
  • Jazz – 16-20 student-athletes per team – mixed gender
  • Pom Doubles – 2 student-athletes per team – mixed gender
  • Hip Hop Doubles – 2 student-athletes per team – mixed gender

Great news: all teams will take part to the finals on Sunday (and not only the top 6)!

The participants

The student-athletes from 16 countries and four continents have all arrived safely and have been practicing their routines on Swedish soil. Small tip: make sure you don’t miss teams USA and Japan, are they are amongst the best on the planet. All they need now is to take part to the opening ceremony and get into costume. Let’s go!

“With a large part of the global elite present at the 2026 championship, Swedish cheerleaders will have the opportunity to watch and be inspired by world-class cheerleading on home soil”, rejoiced Katarina Eriksson, Secretary General of the Swedish Cheerleading Federation. “At the same time, the Swedish Cheerleading Federation will be able to showcase our capabilities as an organiser of sustainable championships to both national and international stakeholders”.
