4th WUC Shooting Sport: Final Day

KAZAN On the last day of the 4th World University Shooting Sport Championship in Kazan, the Russian shooters added another team gold to the country’s collection The Russian national team took the first place in the 10m Air Rifle event. Sergey KRUGLOV, Nazar LUGINETS and Sergey KAMENSKIY gained a total score of 1,785 points. Switzerland (1,765) won silver and France (1,765) got bronze.

Sergey KRUGLOV’s triumph in the 10m Air Rifle Individual event brought another gold medal for the country on Day 5 of the event. KRUGLOV, having qualified in the first place for the Air Rifle final, managed to retain the advantage and scored a total of 700.9 points. Another Russian representative, Nazar LUGINETS took the second place with 699.4 points. The Japanese shooter Masato FUNE (693.9) claimed the third place.

France takes 25m Standard Pistol golds. The French athletes took both individual and team golds in the 25m Standard Pistol event. In the individual competition the top place on the podium went to Clement BESSAGUET (FRA), whose score was 578 points. The representative of the Czech Republic Tomas TEHAN (567) got the silver medal. Another Frenchman, Vincent JEANNINGROS proved to be more accurate in the shoot off with Russia’s Alexey YASKEVICH (565) and took the bronze medal (565).

In the team event France won the first place again, having outscored the rest of the teams with an overwhelming total of 1,702. South Korea (1,670) and Russia (1,668) took the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The Russian Pistol and Rifle shooters collected the largest number of medals at the 4th World University Shooting Sport Championship.

The 4th World University Shooting Sport Championship, one of the test events ahead of the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, has come to an end. The competition ran from September 4th to 9th and was held at two venues: Sviyaga Shooting Complex and Shooting Range Complex in Mirny Township. Up to 300 athletes from 30 countries of the world competed in 34 medal events. 

After five days of competition Russia tops the medal tally with a total of 17 medals (11 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes). The French shooters earned 12 medals (4 golds, 5 silvers and 3 bronzes) and finished second on the medal table. South Korea has 11 (4 silvers, 6 silvers and one bronze) and sits in the third place.

In the Men’s Trap Italian shooter Antonino BARILLA outscored his opponents wining the gold. Silver went to Russian Mikhail LEYBO and bronze to Alessandro CHIANESE also of Italy. In the teal event, the gold was won by the hosts with Italy and Kazakhstan completing the podium.
