The EvalCom 2015 SU and members of the Bidding Committee at the Taipei Municipal Stadium which is nearing completion
The Evaluation Committee for the 2015 Summer Universiade spent the 2nd day of its three-day visit in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, the first bidding host on their Evaluation Tour.
After meeting with the highest authorities of Chinese Taipei yesterday – the President, the Premier and the Mayor – FISU EC members Mr. Bergh, Mr. Cabral, Mr. Malumbete, Mr. Kemal, Mr. Igarashi and FISU Staff member C. Pierre visited another number of venues proposed by the Bidding Committee which could host the sports competitions. The delegates also visited the proposed Athletes’ Village.
A first stop was made at the Taiwan Police College, where the Bidding Committee proposes to stage the Judo competition. Next stop on the road were the campuses of the National Taiwan Sport University (NTSU), Chang Gung University and Chang Gung Institute of Technology. The delegates met the presidents of the respective Academic institutions and walked the three adjacent campuses the Bidding Committee proposes as Athletes’ Village. On campus the following sports could be hosted: archery, volleyball and training venues for tennis and water polo.
After lunch, the EvalCom members visited the Taipei Gymnasium. This Gymnasium is a 7-floor multi-function venue which was built in 1994 and renovated in 2008, with a surface area of 5,128 sqm. The building consists of an underground parking lot (174 places), 2 venues for ball sports (1,340 seating capacity each), conference room, audio center, offices and a floor with badminton courts (1,000 seats). For the Universiade, the building will be destined for basketball and badminton.
Next stop was the newly built Taipei Municipal Stadium with an athletic competition track and field. Adjacent to the stadium is a 300m-warm-up track and field. The stadium has a seating capacity of 21,282 and will have an IAAF class 1 certification by June 2009. Next to the stadium is the Song Shan Aquatic Center with a diving tower and two swimming pools. The venue is proposed for water polo.
NTU Sport StadiumThese three venues together with the Multi-sports Taipei Arena and ice hockey rink the delegates visited yesterday form the Major Sports complex I the center of Taipei City.
Today’s ‘road trip’ of venues ended with the visit of the National Taiwan University Sports Park with a multi-sport stadium, equipped with 2 halls, one for competition (5,000 seats) and one for training, and a stand alone sports hall which is proposed as the venue for weightlifting (1,000 seats).
