Wushu entered the programme of the FISU World University Championships officially in 2014. The first World University Wushu Championship will take place 2-5 August 2018 in Macau, China. An ancient sport also known as kung-fu, the early origins of wushu trace back to the human struggle for survival in a harsh environment. From 2022 onwards, Wushu will be part of the UWC Combat Sports.
Wushu first made it onto the FISU sports programme at the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade as a non-compulsory sport. The inaugural World University Wushu Championship is set to take place in Macau, China in 2018. Wushu competitions are gender-equal and must include: an individual event, individual all-around event, and a team event.
Also known as kung-fu, Wushu is a collective term for the martial art practices, which originated in China. Developed over the past 5,000 years, Wushu’s origins trace back to the human struggle for survival in a harsh environment which included hunting and defending oneself from wild animals and other human beings. Since then, wushu has become a way to cultivate the body, mind and spirit.
