Championships 28 November 2016

XIAMEN – France won gold in both men and women categories at the 3rd World University 3×3 Basketball Championship in Xiamen, China on 21-24 November.

The women’s team featuring Caprais Annabelle, Laetitia Guapo, Caroline Hériaud and Moïna Le Beherec won an absolute thriller against Chinese Taipei (10-8). With the game tied after 10 minutes, Guapo, student at the Université Jean Monnet de Saint-Etienne, buried the gold-winning two-pointer in overtime. Hungary won bronze after defeating Thailand in the third-place game (17-13).

It wasn’t a walk in the park either for the men’s team who lost their opener against Lebanon (16-17). Les Bleus – starring 2 players who competed in the 3×3 professional season this year (Aurélien Blanchard and Alex Vialaret) besides Yann Rakotomalala and Cyril Scherrens – went on to win their next five games, including a 19-12 rout of Mongolia in the final. Lebanon struck bronze after beating China (21-18) in the third-place game.
