BRASILIA – With only a few days left until the beginning of the 12th World University Triathlon Championship, in Brasília, next Sunday 20 April, at 10am. This Tuesday 15 April, CBDU and the Tourism and Sport Departments of the Government of the Federal District officially launched the WUC, at the Tourism Dep. Office room.

The Secretary of Sports Celio René; Secretary of Tourism Otávio Neves; Triathlon Brasília Federation President Paulo Roberto and members of CBDU Mário Ferro and Marcelo Falcão were present for the ceremony.

According to Secretary Célio René “the organization of the 2014 WUC Triathlon in Brasília will add extra joy to the city’s 54 years anniversary. A city known for its ability to host big events.”

The FISU single sport event will take place during the 54th anniversary celebration of the foundation of Brasilia. The championship will also mark the city’s first activity in the run towards the 30th Summer Universiade since Brasilia is also the host city of FISU’s major event in 2019.

The competition will be divided in three phases, starting with the swimming race of 1,500 meters in the Paranoá Lake. Then a bike course of 40 km (4 laps of 10 km) awaits crossing over the JK Bridge and to end the event, all the tri-athletes will have to finish a 10km street race.

Around 100 athletes are expected from 17 registered countries. This will be the second FISU WUC in 2014 and the first international FISU competition held in Brazil this year. Three more will be staged in 2014, i.e. the 6th WUC Rugby 7, from 7 to 10 August in São José dos Campos (São Paulo); the 2nd WUC Basketball 3x3, from 18 to 21 September in Salvador (Bahia) and the International Beach Games, in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina) from 25 to 29 November.

The athletes start to arrive in the city on this Thursday 17 April. The Technical meeting of the WUC will take place at the WUC Official hotel, Carlton Hotel Brasília, located on the address, Setor Hoteleiro Sul, Quadra 5, Bloco G.
