Media accreditation for Napoli 2019 extended till 25 May

Summer Games 17 April 2019

Napoli by night. Italy’s third largest city and capital of the Campania region is set to host Summer Universiade 2019 from the 3-14 July

NAPLES, 15 May – Due to overwhelming demand and interest in the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade, the accreditation deadline for media personnel has been extended until 25 May 2019.

The Director of Media of the Organising Committee, Antonio Gnassi says they “are still receiving many requests from both Italian and international media” and therefore in consultation with FISU have decided to allow ten more days for global media to complete the accreditation procedures.

The Organising Committee invites national and international media to register and be a part of the biggest global multi-sport spectacle for university athletes. Accreditation is now open officially until 24:00 on 25 May. The procedure may be initiated by filling in the online accreditation available on the event’s official website: https://www.universiade2019napoli.it

Once the due procedures are completed, the decision to issue the accreditation will be communicated to the e-mail address provided in the online application form.

The Napoli edition of the Universiade will be a special one as the International University Sports Federation (FISU) celebrates its 70th anniversary. This occasion and also the 60th anniversary of the Universiade itself is being commemorated with a return to Italy, the country that had hosted the very first Universiade, in Torino in 1959.

Around 8,500 athletes from more than 128 countries are expected to compete in 222 medal events in athletics, swimming, gymnastics, judo, taekwondo, basketball, volleyball and many others – a total of 18 sports. The home team leads the field with more than 400 athletes and officials, followed by USA and Russian Federation with more than 350 each. Very strong representation is also expected from Asian sporting giants (People’s Rep. of) China, Japan and Korea, all with between 250-300 entries.
