NAPOLI, ITALY — With 7,825 athletes registered for the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade, it’s time to find out a little more about the locales and competition venues that will host the twelve finest days of university summer sports action at the 30th edition of this event.
While the southern city of Napoli is the event’s hub and heart, four other places in the Campagnia Region – Caserta, Beneveto, Avellino and Salerno – will play host to the world’s finest university student-athletes from the 3-14 July 2019.
Showcasing the equality of university sports, this Summer Universiade is the nearest yet to achieving gender balance as 3,833 men and 3,452 women are set to compete in this historic southwestern Italian region punctuated by the dramatic coastline that sits in the shadow of Mr. Vesuvius.
The team sports of Rugby 7s, Football, Water Polo and Basketball lead the way with absolute parity. Italy fields the largest contigent with 361 participating athletes, followed by the United States 292 member strong team, and Japan’s 281 competing student-athletes.
