Photo credit: MIKLocated on the campus of city’s University, the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games athletes Village is set to accommodate 11,000 people in 6,600 single- and twin-bed rooms.

With a floor area of 800,000 square meters and a building area of 600,000 square meters, the Village is divided in four sectors: the Residential zone, the Operational zone, the International zone and the Transportation zone.

A 17,000 square meters dining room will welcome up to 4340 customers at the same time, with a 20-hour per day service.

In addition to student-athlete rooms, the Village offers delegation apartments, a delegation services center, an operations center, a polyclinic and various sports facilities, including an Olympic-size swimming pool, nine Basketball courts, track-and-field grounds and a fitness center.

Following the double postponement of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games, the village is currently occupied by students and will be returned to the University after the Games.

“Since 2019, we have seen much improvement, and for us this is important because we are not only talking of the 15 days of the games but of their legacy. So all the Village’s installations and equipment are ultimately for the students of Chengdu,” said FISU Secretary General and CEO Éric Saintrond.

“I’m impressed by many things: all the services are very close from each other, the transportation network works very well, the facilities are all perfect. This is one of the best villages we ever had,” he added.

During the Games, athletes will also enjoy cultural activities in the Village, including planting trees in the Friendship Forest, participating in interactive experience events and discovering art exhibitions.

“During their stay here, athletes don’t only go to competition or training venues and come back to the Village to eat and sleep, so having cultural activities inside the Village is really welcome because they won’t have much time to go outside,” said Éric Saintrond.
