One year to go until the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games

Summer Games 23 June 2021

The countdown is on. Just one year to go until the summer edition of the FISU World University Games in Chengdu!

After a joint postponement decision between FISU and the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games Organising Committee, the FISU Games in Chengdu will now take place from 26 June to 7 July 2022. That is just one year away!

2022 was already expected to be an exciting year, with an extensive list of FISU World University Championships and FISU University World Cups scheduled throughout the year. And adding Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games to next year’s sport calendar has lifted the whole thing to another level – not to mention the educational events also hosted by FISU throughout the year.

2021 CHENGDUWith its stunning views, amazing food and rich history, the FISU Games in Chengdu are well represented in all aspects of its visual components of the Games themselves. Take the logo for example (pictured left)—a sweeping “U” shaped design to represent university sport, along with touches of a golden sun bird in representation of the Sichuan civilisation and purity of the FISU Games Flame.

Helping the slogan of “Chengdu Makes Dreams Come True,” is none other than Rongbao the giant panda (pictured below), who also happens to be the mascot of the FISU Games. It is no wonder that Rongbao would be chosen as Chengdu is known to have the Giant Panda National Park and panda sanctuary well worth visiting during your stay.

The city is also no stranger to hosting sports events, having already seen the World Police and Fire Games and the ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cups. They don’t plan on stopping after the FISU Games—in fact, Chengdu will be the host city for the 2023 AFC Men’s Football Asian Cup and the 2025 World Games on the international sports calendar.

Although international sports world saw many postponements and cancellations on the international sports events calendar, FISU and organisers of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games remain committed to hosting the world’s best university athletes in 2022.
