Music Gala sets the tone for the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games

Summer Games 8 November 2021

A “Stay Tuned for 2021 FISU World University Games” music gala was held on 29 October 2021 at the Chengdu Hi-Tech Zone Sports Centre to invite worldwide students to join the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games on 26 June – 7 July 2022.

A public solicitation campaign for the theme song of the Chendu 2021 FISU Games was launched in March by the Executive Committee. Out of over 2,700 pieces of musical works, 20 songs were selected from dozens of countries and regions. Some of the 20 selected songs were performed at the music gala by famous singers, local artists, and university students. A drone flight show was also presented outdoors.

FISU Acting President Leonz Eder addressed the music gala and gave his blessing for the Games via video link. “I am delighted to see that people from across the world are working together to stage a wonderful Games for the young people. I am also delighted to see that musicians from around the world have composed 2,723 beautiful songs for the Games, bonding the world’s youth together through music. I am looking forward to the wonderful sparks between the youth from all over the world at the city of Chengdu,” he said.

Students from more than 100 universities across China watched the online live broadcast and interacted online through the official website of the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games as well as internet platforms such as Douyin, WeChat Live, and Bilibili.

The musical show was also aired on nearly 150 network platforms such as Xinhua and CCTV, with nearly 200 million viewers from more than 40 countries and regions around the world.
