Koreans delighted with selection of Chungcheong Megacity as host of 2027 FISU Games

Summer Games 14 November 2022

In Summer 2027, the FISU World University Games will go to Chungcheong Megacity, Korea. The FISU’s Executive Committee meeting in Brussels made a clear choice.

It sparked tears in the North Carolina delegation, whose candidature bid was also strong. As FISU Acting President Leonz Eder said: “we would be delighted to have North Carolina as a host for the FISU World University Games in the future at the first available opportunity.”

But in the other camp, the result was welcomed with shouts of joy and duly celebrated.

“This is a really big blessing for our community, our country in general, so I just hope we will get a chance to see how happy the Koreans are,” said Tae in-Young, Chungcheong Bid Committee’s Communications Director.

“It has been a hard work because it is not a single community that worked to do this, we had four joint communities coming together as a megacity. These are four different regions with different characteristics, and we were really trying to find a way to bring their people together.”

“The infrastructure is actually the easiest way to do it and the local government thought it was the best idea, and now we are getting it and we would like to show the world how happy we are.”
