3rd WUC Speed Skating – Day 2

BASELGA DI PINE – The second day of competitions at the 3rd World University Speed Skating Championship featured two more gold medals for the host nation and two gold medals for Team Poland.

In the 5,000 meters Men Davide Ghiotto (ITA) won his second gold of the championship after finishing first in the Team Pursuit Men the day before. Ryosuke Tsuchiya (JPN) finished second and Adrian Wielgat opened a medal-heavy second day for Poland with the bronze medal. Wielgats compatriot Katarzyna Wozniak should not lag behind. She won the gold medal in the 1,500 meters Ladies ahead of Nana Takahashi (JPN) and Olesya Chernega (RUS).

In the second men’s race of the day another student-athlete of the host nation finished first. Mirko Giacomo Nenzi won the third gold medal of the championship for his country. Yuto Fujino (JPN) came in second – the third silver medal of the day for Japan. Konrád Nagy from Hungary finished third.

Day 2 came to a conclusion with the Team Pursuit Ladies where teams from Poland, the Netherlands, Russia and Italy raced for gold. Magdalena Czyszczon, Angelika Fudalej, Katarzyna Wozniak and Urszula Wlodarczyk equalised the daily gold medals count finishing first ahead of the Netherlands and Russia.

The schedule of day three includes five races: 1,000 meters Ladies, 10,000 meters Men, 5,000 meters Ladies, Team Sprint Men, Team Spring Ladies. Competitions will start at 18:00 (CET).
