This first coordination visit for the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade saw the FISU delegation spend 10 days in the Jilin Province in China.
The much-anticipated Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade is taking shape day after day. The host city has just completed an intensive, 10-day on-site inspection with a FISU Delegation made of teams covering sport, security, integrated services, communications and more.
The outcome is encouraging as FISU spoke highly of Changchun’s solid, efficient, and professional preparations.
A need for high quality venues
The two main aims of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade Organising Committee is to attract more young Chinese to the ice and slopes to practise winter sports and to show the world that the Jilin Province is a great host for international sports events. Of course, the quality of its venues is fundamental to a successful Winter Universiade.

The inspection team visited core competition and training venues, including Changchun Sports Center, Beidahu and Jingyuetan ski resorts, carefully evaluating the quality of newly built and renovated venues, functional zoning and supporting facilities.
So what did they conclude?
“I am truly amazed,” said Milan Augustin, FISU Winter Games Director. “I came to Changchun last January, and in just four to five months, a remarkable progress has been made. The reconstruction and optimisation of venues have convinced me that we will host a spectacular Winter Universiade.”

The team agreed that Changchun’s venue planning is scientifically sound, construction standards are high, and facilities fully meet international winter sports competition requirements. Changchun’s venues will be ready to welcome the world.
Making sure everyone and everything is safe
Reto Nause, FISU Head of Security, inspected the Changchun Municipal Public Security Bureau and the InterContinental Changchun High-tech Zone, among other locations. He praised the city’s professional security work. “My impression of Changchun is that the security situation here is excellent. I very much look forward to people from all over the world coming to Changchun, Jilin Province, to experience the Winter Universiade.”
Ma Pengjiao, Director of the Press and Publicity Division of the Changchun Municipal Public Security Bureau, said: “We are refining security plans and emergency response protocols in line with the Organising Committee’s requirements. We have both the confidence and the capability to ensure a safe Winter Universiade.”
With an all-round and comprehensive security system for the Games, including full domain risk control, duty deployment and various contingency plans, Changchun is ready.

A great experience for the participants
A warm welcome means a good first impression. At Changchun Longjia International Airport, the inspection team strictly followed major-event entry and exit standards, conducting on-site assessments of dedicated athlete clearance routes, international arrival flows, baggage claim areas and other key points. The team found the services thoughtful, practical and meticulous — a clear reflection of the city’s hospitality.
“We have had many meetings over the past few days and gathered a wealth of valuable information,” said Luca Valenza, FISU Sports Manager. “Changchun will provide very comprehensive services for athletes, and athletes will have a very good experience here.”
Show the world Changchun’s efforts
A successful international event also relies on strong communications and professional media operations. During the inspection, the team recognised the work of the Communications and Press Department of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade Organising Committee and visited the event’s International Broadcast Centre at the Northeast Asia International Expo Centre as well as the future Main Press Centre and media facilities at the different venues.

“I have a very good impression from this visit,” said Thérèse Courvoisier, FISU Communications Operations Senior Manager. “I can already see the slogans displayed around the city, and I hear that the mascots, that we see everywhere, are already sold out! This is a very positive sign: the people of the Jilin Province know about the event and can’t wait to attend! I hope that through further promotion, we can share with the world all the efforts made here in China.”
Deliver a successful and safe Winter Universiade
In response to FISU’s inspection and high recognition, Gao Jifeng, Deputy Director of the Executive Office of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade Organising Committee and Deputy Head of the General Coordination Department, said: “The FISU team has provided precise, practical and actionable advice. We will live up to their trust and expectations and go all out to deliver a splendid, successful and safe Winter Universiade.”

This intensive inspection served both as a comprehensive test of Changchun’s capability to host the Games and as a high-level international coordination exercise. Moving forward, Changchun will strictly follow FISU’s Games delivery standards and coordinate staffing, departmental collaboration, safety and security, services, communications and other efforts, striving to make the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade unforgettable.
