Championships 4 July 2016

ANAPOLIS – The first game on Sunday 3 July, at the International Gym Newton de Faria, in Anápolis, resulted in a victory for the Portuguese women’s team beating Team Argentina. In a game with several faults, Portugal passed through the opponent’s defense seven times. Argentina scored only one goal. Joana Meire, the N° 8 from Portugal, was the top scorer of the game, with three goals. The Portuguese women team’s coach, Pedro Palas said he was very happy with the result. “The team got nervous in the game, but it was consolidating itself and we must congratulate the girls! We expect a tough match against Russia, an extremely experienced and organized team that is accustomed to compete at the highest level of university futsal”, he said.

The female team from Argentina will face Mexico on Tuesday (05/07), at 4pm, in the International Gym Newton de Faria, in Anápolis.

CAN vs KAZ with Cosselein (CAN) on the ball

The afternoon of Sunday, 3 July, ended with a 9-0 victory by the Canadian women’s team over its opponent Kazakhstan. The match was in the International Gym Newton de Faria, in Anápolis. Canada dominated the game and neutralized each attack of the Kazakh team, which was until then one of the favorites to win the championship.

The Canadians Duncan (N° 9) and Cosselein (N° 10) were the top scorers of the match, scoring twice. Tino Fusco, the Canadian team’s coach, liked the game. “Today’s result was very good. With Brazil it will be very difficult. We will study [the team] to do our best”, he said.

The next game of Kazakhstan will be against New Zealand, on Tuesday (05), also in Goiânia’s gym.

Later the day, the women’s team of Russia defeated Colombia in the International Gym Newton de Faria, in Anápolis, with a score of 7-0. A wasted penalty, near the end of the second half, could have extended even more the victory of the Russian. The players Gamidova (N° 11) and Nikitina (N° 7) were the players who made most goals in the Russian team.
