2012 WUC Floorball Update: Day 3 of Competitions

Championships 26 May 2012

SUI vs AUT

PRAGUEThe group stages of the 5th World University Floorball Championship came to an end with the derby match between the two parts of former Czechoslovakia, which finalized the pairings for the semi-finals and the play-offs for the lesser placings. In the men’s semi-finals, Czechoslovakia plays Switzerland and Sweden plays Finland. Again there were some high-margin wins. The Finns, Swedes and Swiss each put 20 or more goals into their opponents’ net, and made sure there were no surprise results. In the women’s section, there was not much to compete over. Curiously, the same matches that were played on Friday will be repeated on Saturday in the semi-finals.

Sweden’s win over Switzerland and the host team’s draw with Finland in the other match could not affect the pairings. Though the Finnish girls were playing catch-up all the game, they finally drew level 12 minutes before the end, and the final score was 3-3.

The Czech hosts’ men’s team closed down the evening session. Against the Slovaks they pursued their target single-mindedly, and took a 3-0 lead in the first period. Then the favourites kept putting one goal after another into the Slovak net, and when the clock reached 60 minutes, the scorebaord showed a final scoreline of 15-2.
