FISU and FEI Meeting in Lyon

Summer Games 3 February 2009

FISU CT Chair Mr. Julius Kralik and FISU Sports Department Manager Michal Buchel had the opportunity to meet Mr. Mohamed El Motakawel, the FEI Chair of the Referees Committee in Lyon during the Junior Women Foil World Cup.

The main topic of the meeting was to set up the nomination of the upcoming Summer Universiade referees for the fencing competition. The major change in the FISU General Regulations regarding the nomination of the referees for the Summer Universiade consist in the fact that the selection and nomination will be prepared by FEI and that the countries will share the cost of the referees according to their participation figures.

The FEI Technical Directory was also reviewed and consequently the number of the video referees was increased due to the changes in the international body. This change will without doubt enhance the level of the referees and it will help both federations but also the participating countries.

All participating fencers will be required to have a FEI license. This will enhance the communication regarding the official FEI ranking of the fencers which FEI can publish on its website. In case of missing FEI licenses, the National University Sports Federation (FNSU) should address an official request to their National Fencing Federations.
