New Dates for 2014 WUC Equestrian due to Contagious Horse Disease

Championships 14 March 2014

LAUSANNE Further to the postponement of the 11th World University Equestrian Championship, due to horse disease, new dates have been set for this WUC, in agreement with the Organising Committee and the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). The new dates for this FISU event are 17-20 November, 2014.

The epidemic responsible for the postponement of the competition was Strangles, a highly contagious and serious infection of horses and other equids caused by the bacterium Streptococcus equi. Therefore the horses for the WUC were unavailable. As it has been mentioned in a previous message, FISU abides by the FEI veterinary rules and thus considers the safety and health of horses as a primary concern.

FISU understands the difficulties created by such a late change in schedule and sincerely hopes to have all initially registered teams present at the postponed event in November.

For additional information, do not hesitate to contact the WUC Department at championships@fisu.net.
