2011 WU Update Day10 – Cross Country – Mass Start

Cross-Country Skiing 3 February 2011

A 100% Russian Podium

ERZURUM – February 5th – The “mass start” marked the end of the cross-country skiing competition at this Universiade; 15 km for the ladies and 30 km for the men, all in freestyle. The contestants, as well as the organizers and all those who worked for the success of this competition, had a wonderful impression of this last event, so magnificent were the racing conditions. The snow was good, the weather mild, and the course beautifully prepared. And that’s all it took for the Russians to polish off their masterpiece and win all the Men’s Medals. Indeed, Vladislav Skobelev gained is fourth Medal and his third Gold today. He was followed by Ilshat Nigmatullin and Andray Kalsin, all Russians skiers.

It was an “easy” race for Alena Prochazkova (SVk) who took her fourth Gold here in Erzurum in the Women’s event. Alia Iksanova (RUS) took the Silver Medal and Kateryna Grygorenko (UKR) the Bronze.

We have already set the next date for the Maribor Universiade in 2013.
