WUC Cheerleading off to a pompous start

LODZ – The 2018 FISU World University Cheerleading Championship officially came true as delegations of 13 participating countries, representing 4 continents, marched in the Opening Ceremony at Lodz University of Technology Sports Bay on Thursday evening.

As the march pass finished, the Vice-Rector of the host university, Prof. Witold Pawłowski welcomed all participants, conveying the message from Prof. Sławomir Wiak, the host University Rector and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee. "The value of sport for personal development cannot be overestimated," Wiak stressed.

The next to address the audience was Dr. Malumbete Ralethe of the FISU Executive Committee, saying how important this addition of Cheerleading to the FISU WUC programme is.

The championship was then officially opened by Mr Marek Kondraciuk, representative of the city of Lodz, leading to the conclusion of the ceremony with Athletes and Judges Oaths. Following that, the athletes had a chance to get together at the stage, exchange pins, chat and relax before the first day of the competition.

Events of Friday open with Performance Cheer Doubles divisions, moving on through Performance Cheer Team di- visions to finish with Cheerleading Elite and Premier. All teams perform on the first day and the score of the day will count as 25% of the total score. More importantly, the scores from day one determine the starting order on the second and final day of the championship – so everyone is sure to bring their A-game!
