On 20 September 2026, the International Day of University Sport proclaimed by UNESCO celebrated its 10 years of existence. The campaign “10 years – 10 kilometres” was a great success thanks to all of you.
Once again, you were incredible! On 20 September, for the tenth time in a row, we saw the whole world celebrating university sport with races, events, gatherings, sport, lectures, conferences and even cultural displays and sharing everything on social media.
To make this year’s International Day of University Sport a bit special, and to unite everyone in one global movement, we launched a campaign called “10 years – 10 kilometres”. The idea was that on 20 September, we would all move together, we share our local event with the world, from Oceania to the Americas and we would add up all or our kilometres to show that, together, we can move far around the globe.

Well… CONGRATULATIONS! Because even if some of you are still celebrating IDUS over a longer period, so far the kilometre count adds up to an impressive total of 8243! This allows us to join FISU Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland to Changchun, China where the next Winter Universiade will take place from 15-25 January 2027!
And of course, let’s not forget all of you who celebrated the International Day of University Sport your own way and who shared your celebrations with us.
