The Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade Heads of Delegation meeting kicked off on Monday 14 September in China. After a an information-filled meeting, the representatives of 23 countries and regions started their first onsite venue visits.

“This is the first time we welcome the world to a Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade event and I am sure that, like me, you will appreciate the warm hospitality of the people, the culture of the region and the quality of the venues in Changchun, in Jilin and in the mountains”, said FISU President Leonz Eder in his opening speech.

The inaugural meeting started with welcome speeches from Gu Gang, vice-chairman of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade and Mayor of Changchun, who insisted on the value of this Heads of Delegation (HoD) meeting on a consultation and cooperation level – as well as Wang Jiayi, Vice-Minister of Education and National Chief inspector – who mentioned the importance President XI Jinping’s attaches to ice and snow sports as well as education and youth.

The Organising Committee then took the Heads of Delegation present in Changchun and the others following online through a detailed presentation of the preparations of the event.

In the second part of the meeting, FISU Secretary General and CEO Matthias Remund insisted on the collaboration between FISU and the local Organising Committee. “The HoD meeting is an important milestone in the preparations for the Universiades. The organisers have done an outstanding job in a very short space of time. You will see the progress that has been made. We are supporting the Changchun OC very narrowly with constant communication.”

FISU Master then provided further information respectively on international promotion and coverage of the event, registration and safeguarding.

Three days of venue visits

It was then time for everyone to get on the road for the beginning of the venue inspection visits, which will take the Heads of Delegation all around Changchun and Jilin to visit sports facilities and hotels.
