The 3×3 basketball competition at the European Universities Games sends women from Vytautas Magnus University (LTU)? and men from University of Seville (ESP) to the FISU World Cup on 23-25 October.
During the second week of the European Universities Games in Salerno, Italy a total of 24 men’s and 20 women’s university teams competed in several days of high-intensity action, showcasing speed, skill and excitement on the court.
Beyond the European titles, the tournament also carried added significance, as it served as a qualifying event for the FISU University World Cup that will be held in Macau, China from 23-25 October. Teams battled not only for medals but also for the opportunity to represent European university sport on the global stage.
In the women’s tournament, Vytautas Magnus University (LTU) captured the title ahead of the University of Ljubljana (SLO), with the University of Seville (ESP) completing the podium.
In the men’s competition, the University of Seville (ESP) claimed the gold medal after defeating the University of Vienna (AUT) in the final, while the University of Latvia (LAT) secured bronze.
Individual excellence was also recognised. The Fair Play Awards in both competitions went to the University of Salerno (ITA). Martyna Petrenaite (Vytautas Magnus University) was named Women’s Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer, while Joaquin Cebolla Herrera (University of Seville) earned the Men’s Most Valuable Player award. Michal Svoboda (University of Ostrava) finished as the men’s Top Scorer.
The Women’s Team of the Tournament featured Martyna Petrenaite (Vytautas Magnus University), Anja Dragar (University of Ljubljana) and Marta Garcia Mateo (University of Seville).
The Men’s Team of the Tournament included Joaquin Cebolla Herrera (University of Seville), Janis Tomaschek (University of Vienna) and Davis Skreivers (University of Latvia).
Adding another highlight to the competition, Ivan Mucak of the University of Zagreb (CRO) won the Dunk Contest, bringing the tournament to a spectacular conclusion.

Vytautas Magnus University and University of Sevilla are joining women from Carleton University (CAN) and from Uganda Christian University (UGA) as well as and men from Yale University (USA) and The University of Ibadan (NGR) who will represent the Americas and Africa at the 2026 FISU University World Cup 3×3 basketball.
