FISU prepares a strategic shift to a more dynamic and engaging future

29 April 2026
FISU President Leonz Eder and FISU Secretary General/CEO Matthias Remund led the online discussion from the FISU Headquarters in Lausanne.

The members of the Executive Committee met online on 28 April to discuss FISU’s brand evolution and concrete plans to ensure complete safety at all its events. The next meeting will be held in person in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on 26-27 June.

Just like the student-athletes are training for their next FISU event, the International University Sports Federation is currently working on its future positioning and visual identity to support its new strategic phase that will start just after the General Assembly, in January 2027.

This shift in look and tone from the federation to the world university sports movement is aimed at reinforcing its awareness and appeal, mainly from student-athletes, member federations, sponsors and of course the general public. With a fresher and more dynamic look and feel, FISU will empower and engage the whole international university sports movement.

Ensuring the safety of the university sports movement

The participant’s and public’s safety, the competitions’ integrity as well as FISU’s educational mission remain priorities at all FISU events. The International University Sports Federation, who has mandated a dedicated specialist for these matters, will continue to adopt a flexible and responsive governance approach and will possibly adapt the event and participation conditions if needed. Of course, FISU will remain aligned with the International Olympic Committee as well as the International Sports Federations while preserving its autonomy

The FISU Executive Committee is committed to working on shaping the future of the world university sports movement and will meet in person in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on 26-27 June.
