Inspection visit to Zagreb takes place as plans for 2024 FISU Forum come together

World Forum 23 February 2024

Spring is just around the corner in the northern hemisphere. With summer to follow, that means we’re getting closer to the Zagreb 2024 FISU World Forum taking place 27-31 August.

Another step in its planning took place this past week with an inspection visit by FISU to the Croatian capital. Lilia Barieva, FISU Education & Culture Director, and Virginie Rochat, FISU Education & Culture Assistant met with the organising committee to receive an update on plans for August.

The visit included inspections of conference venues to be used at Stjepan Radić University and at the Faculty of Kinesiology in Zagreb. The dormitory at Stjepan Radić University will also provide accommodation for participants. This has a historical connection to FISU, having housed athletes at the 1987 Summer Universiade in Zagreb, while also welcoming participants during the 2016 European Universities Games held jointly with the city of Rijeka.

Organising committee members, including Croatian Academic Sports Federation Secretary General Nikola Vincetić, provided progress on the event’s programme and cultural activities. This is centred around the main theme of this 16th edition of the FISU World Forum of University Sport: Creating a Better World. Two sub-themes are also part of planning:

  • Diversity and Inclusion: Fostering gender equality, inclusivity, and accessibility in university sports.
  • Sports Diplomacy and Global Relations: Leveraging university sports for international collaboration and cultural exchange.

Registrations to attend the Zagreb 2024 FISU World Forum are open now and those interested are urged to secure their spots. Additional information on all the events, including registration details, can be found here.
