The process has started for what is often a life-changing experience for youngsters around the world. FISU member federations can now start nominating their candidates for the 2021 edition of the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy that will be held in a hybrid format – online and onsite – in June and September this year.
This opportunity is open to all university students aged between 18-25 years, who can demonstrate a genuine interest and involvement in university sports events and in sport, cultural and social life in general.
The introductory session will be held online from 19-20 June 2021, where selected participants from around the world will be introduced to the International University Sports Federation, its events and activities, as well as the leadership.
Later in the year, from 8-14 September, the main session will be held in Kazan, Russian Federation, as has been done since the inaugural edition, barring 2020.
The mission of the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) is to further develop university sports globally, in cooperation with National and Continental University Sports Federations (NUSFs and CUSFs), through the training and development of future FISU Student Ambassadors. These Student Ambassadors go on to assist their respective NUSF and CUSF in the implementation of international, national, and local projects and activities, particularly the annual International Day of University Sport on 20 September.
The strong educational component of the FVLA programme includes an introduction to FISU’s history, structure, sports and educational events. The participants join workshops on various aspects of university sports, including volunteer management at events, media and communications, and also get to try their hand at a variety of sports.
FISU’s member federations can now start nominating their candidates and submit general and individual forms in the FISU Online Accreditation System (OAS) on the FISU website. Member federations may send a separate application for a second participant who meets all participant requirements. In this case, the NUSF or CUSF will be responsible for travel and participation costs.
