XIAMEN – The FISU-CUSF Strategic Dialogue came to an end with a complete success. On 23 November, the 2nd day of the strategic dialogue was continued with the conclusion reports of parallel workshops by the 5 sub-regional chairs as grouped the day before.
AUSF Vice-President Mr. JARGALSALKHAN D. reported on the establishment and membership of AUSF member federations in Central Asia. A more active trend was presented by increasing championships and Universiades in recent years among this area. Central Asian countries get more and more involved in the diversity of university sports events with the help of various funding resources.
AUSF President Mr. XUE Yanqing’s presentation of East Asia mainly concentrated on such concerns as media and material exchange, communication network, FISU-CUSF dialogue mechanism, funding for participation as well as organization of events for FISU/AUSF.

As for South Asia, AUSF Treasurer Mr. SEETOW Cheng Fave pointed out the imbalanced development of university sports development in this area. As preliminarily discussed, this may resort to the amount of enthusiasm each south Asian country aroused for some of them tend to get more involved in the events than others. Differences were also manifested in the financial supports, sports infrastructure, administrative capacity etc. To narrow down the gap between countries, a suggestion of an inspection visit to those countries lacking in passion, short in facilities and scarce for personnel was proposed.
Mr. Abdullah Mohamad Said, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of MARA University of Technology summarized the discussion in Southeast Asia. A large number of hot issues were reported, especially in case of funding by the government, relationships between NSFs, national Olympic bodies, government agencies, universities, stakeholders, regional/continental federations and FISU.
Last but not least, AUSF Senior Vice-President Mr. Omar AL-HAI presented the NUSF’s composition, approaches to funding resources or Universiades and championships each member country attended or hosted. Geographically adjacent to Europe and Africa, this region bridges the East and the West, attracting more attention from neighbouring CUSFs (i.e. EUSA) or international organizations (i.e. FISU). With the increasing number of university students being encouraged to participate in international sport events, the NUSFs gradually perform better among Asian countries.

Plenary III
The Plenary III was themed with ‘Good Practice of Sports Management at Continental Level’, presented by 5 speakers, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor of MARA University of Technology Mr. Abdullah Mohamad Said, AUSC Secretary General Mr. HANIF Muhamad Mohd Bin, Arabic USF Mr. Omar AL-HAI, FISU Oceania President Mr. Martin DOULTON and KUFC representative Ms. Uranbileg Zorigoo. Good practices of sports administration, staff management, secretariat structure, marketing platform, volunteer and internship programmes, development funding, exhibition and fair play promotion were elaborated.
Following was an OC’s brief presentation on the 1stAsian University Archery Championship 2017 to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and a short summary of the 1st Intensive Training Programme for Asian University Sport Leaders 2015 held in Korea. Considering that the cooperation between AUSF and FISU-Oceania was established, some joint events would be hosted. The AUSF Calendar 2017 is as follows:

This strategic dialogue was rounded off by two closing speeches. In his speech, AUSF President XUE Yanqing congratulated on the big success of 1st FISU-CUFS Strategic Dialogue co-hosted by FISU and AUSF, with 100,000 viewers for live broadcasting and 20,000 peak concurrent viewers. He appreciated mutual understanding and firm trust FISU has laid on AUSF for organising the event, and attributed the great success to the joined efforts made by FISU and CUSF delegates, fellow AUSF members and the Secretariat, officials from the Ministry of Education, P.R. China, local government and Huaqiao University as the Organising Committee.
FISU 1st Vice-President Mr. Leonz Eder re-emphasized the close relation between FISU, CUSF and NUSF regarding activities, strength, demands and even problems. The chief goal of this strategic dialogue is to help establish a regular and close communication of university sports development among AUSF members and with FISU. To achieve this goal, he called on everyone’s concrete actions to live up to a good many of proposals for the near future. On behalf of FISU, he extended his many thanks to all the speakers, presenters and attendees, and hoped for the next edition of this strategic dialogue in future.
