EUSA President Roczek and USSS President Jasnic cut the ribbon
BELGRADE – The University Sports Federation of Serbia (USSS) celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 8 May 2013. The celebration programme started with the official opening of the new USSS offices located in the Central Belgrade Area.
The gala ceremony that followed afterwards was attended by many important guests among them Mr Milan Bacevic, Serbian Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning, Mr Predrag Peruncic, the Secretary of State for Sport and Mr Aleksandar Sostar, President of the Sports Federation of Serbia.
EUSA was represented on the anniversary by Mr Adam Roczek, President, Mr Alberto Gualtieri, Honorary President and Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General. Mr Roczek also represented FISU, as a member of the FISU Executive Committee.
In his opening address Mr Sinisa Jasnic, President of the University Sports Federation of Serbia stressed that in these 60 years athletes from Serbia won over 500 medals at the Universiades, European and World University Championships; and that the federation successfully organised a great number of these events as well. Mr Jasnic also announced that in the upcoming years USSS has a plan to build a national student sports centre in Belgrade.
In his speech, Mr Roczek congratulated the federation on this important anniversary and stressed its great contribution to the promotion and development of university sport. Also Mr Alberto Gualtieri, EUSA Honorary President addressed the participants of the gala ceremony thanking both Mr Jasnic and Mr Jovanovic for their cooperation during the last years. Mr Roczek and Mr Gualtieri also presented a special EUSA plaquette to USSS President Jasnic.
Afterwards, the congratulation addresses were given by other distinguished guests. The ceremony continued with awarding the institutions and individuals who contributed to the development the university sport in Serbia. The plaques on the occasion of the USSS jubilee were given to the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Serbia, FISU, EUSA, Universities, partners and Honorary President of EUSA Mr Gualtieri.
After the ceremony, the futsal finals of the Serbian Universities League were played in the hall of the Serbian Football Association in Stara Pazova. The University of Belgrade won with 4-1 against the University of Nis and therefore qualified for the European Universities Championship to be held this July in Spain.
