EUSA participates at the EU Forum in Cyprus

NICOSIA The City of Nicosia, Cyprus hosted from September 19-20, 2012 the EU Sports Forum 2012 which attracted the participation of about 300 participants from the Olympic and other sport movements, including leading representatives from international and European sport federations, European and national sport umbrella organisations and other sport-related organisations. EUSA was also present at the forum, represented by Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Secretary General and accompanied by Mr Dinos Pavlou, Statutory Committee Chair.

During the first day, particular attention was given to the recent EU level developments in the field of sport, with a focus on proposal for EU programme for Education, Training, Youth and Sport. The results of the 2010 Preparatory Action in the field of sport were also presented, as well as some of the projects supported by the European Commission, among them also the project European Anti-doping Initiative (EADIn), where EUSA was one of the partners.

EUSA SG Matjaz PecovnikOn the second day, the panel debate on developing principles of good governance in sport and on European social dialogue in the field of sport was held. The Forum continued with a joint lunch with EU Sports Ministers and European Commissioner for Sport, Mrs Androulla Vassiliou and a high-level debate on the contribution of sport to economic growth and employment in the EU.

During the forum Mr Pecovnik had an opportunity for several individual meetings with representatives of sports organisations from all over the Europe, among them also with EUSA partner organisations, such as ENGSO Youth and ENAS.

The forum concluded with a debate and declaration on the fight against match fixing.
