KAZAN – Throughout the whole week theFISU Inspection Team have been inspecting venues for the 2013 Summer Universiade, along with holding working meetings with Team 2013′s representatives responsible for designated areas of the preparation for the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan.
The delegation, headed by Marc Vandenplas, FISU Director for the Summer Universiade, consisted of FISU CTI Chair for the Summer Universiade John Warnock, Assistant to the Summer Universiade Jing Zhao, Sport Assistant to Summer Universiade Melanie Stallecker, as well as FISU IT Advisor Mirjana Cvijanovic and her colleague Zoran Nikolic.
At the working sessions the Kazan 2013 organizers andFISUdelegates discussed such issues as the competition schedule, timing and scoring systems, accreditation and Games management system, Universiade Village’s management, accommodation and catering services, transportation and logistics, software and communications, marketing, social and cultural programs, medical service, doping control, guide posts and signs, interaction with media, security enforcement, as well as volunteer recruitment, training and coordination.
During the summing-up session Marc Vandeplas noted: «By the number and amount of questions addressed to the FISU members during the working meetings, we understood what a profound and detailed preparation Team 2013 is conducting in Kazan. People that are working to make the Universiade in the capital of Tatarstan happen, are not only highly professional, but also care about the work they are responsible for. Today it’s important to keep up the same pace of work.»

Apart from getting involved in the working meetings, the FISU delegates also inspected the newly built venues for the 2013 World University Summer Games: Universiade Village, Rowing Centre, Saint Petersburg Volleyball Centre, Ak Bars Wrestling Palace, Vatan and Olimp Multifunctional Sports Complexes, Akcharlak and Burevestnik Swimming Pools, Field Hockey Centre, Shooting Complex and some others. Besides, the inspection team visited the venues under construction, specifically the International Media Centre,AquaticsPalace, 45,000-seat football stadium. While touring the construction site of the football stadium, the main venue of the Universiade’s Opening and Closing Ceremonies, John Warnock said:«A huge amount of work has already been done. There is still a lot to do. I’m glad that the venues inKazanare built in such a way as to make the citizens of Kazan happy before and after the Universiade. My home town, Sheffield, in Great Britain hosted the World University Games in 1991 and there was a rich legacy of sporting infrastructure left after the Games were held. The same thing will happen in the capital of Tatarstan. I have no doubt about that.»
The next visit of the FISU delegates to Kazan is scheduled for January 2012. The members of the FISU staff are set to host an educational workshop for all those involved in the preparation and staging of the 2013 Summer Universiade to help them to get to better know their area of responsibility.
