2012 WUC Update: FADU and University do Minho to host Chess and Futsal in 2012

9 September 2011

BRUSSELSIn 2012, the Portuguese University Sport Federation (FADU) will organize two World University Championships, i.e. Chess and Futsal.

Those WUCs will both be organized by the University of Minho respectively in the cities of Guimarães and Braga.

FADU and the University of Minho have a large experience in organizing World University Championships; indeed Braga already hosted the World University Futsal Championship in 1998 in which 14 countries took place. Guimarães also hosted few international events, including a European University Championship in Basketball.

From 18th to 25th August 2012, Braga will welcome teams coming from all around the world to compete for one of the most claimed title in a very popular sport, Futsal.

The event will look to draw synergies from the fact that the city will be European Capital of Youth in 2012.

With the nomination Guimarães as the European Capital of Culture and Youth for 2012, the 12th World University Chess Championship will be a crossroads between sport and culture gathering students from all around the world to compete in a top level competition from 2nd to 9th of September 2012.
