Shenzhen Vice-Mayor Lu RuifengSHENZHEN – After the warm welcome by the Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen Lu Ruifeng, Chair of the Legal Committee William Hybl reported on the checking of the mandates.
Then Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond started the roll call and the Assembly approved the nomination of the scrutineers, i.e. William Hybl (USA), Etienne Vauthier (BEL) and Hans Bodmer (SUI).
‘The final event of this four-year circle is about to unfold here in Shenzhen in a matter of hours’, Mr. Killian said in his president’s report. ‘I want to thank all of the individuals, from insideFISUas well those outside ofFISUfor their dedication and hard work in the performance of their duties which allowed us to produce successful Universiades for the enjoyment and benefit of all our university students.’
Then the floor was given to the Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond to present his report. After asking a minute of silence of the deceased FISUFamily members, a video was shown that gave an overview from the FISUactivities since Belgrade 2009 up to now. Mr. Saintrond then explained in more detail the past two years of FISUactivities. The SG/CEO also pointed out the help program for the Shenzhen Universiade. ‘We are pleased that we could put in place a aid program on the occasion of the 26th Summer Universiade. 72 NUSFs have benefited from this support. Among these associations, i.e. 22 are fromAmerica, 11 from Asia, 4 from Oceania, 4 from Europe and 25 fromAfrica. Even if I mention my satisfaction regarding the number of countries that have benefited from this support, I still feel some regret’, Mr. Saintrond added. ‘Indeed, today over 70 associations, i.e. nearly half of our membership needs financial aid and this means that among our associations too many still do not get any financial support from their government or national authorities. I think thatFISU will be totally satisfied only when not a single Member Association needs this financial support.
In his report, the SG/CEO reminded the membership that the biggest TV coverage ever at a Universiade has been put in place.
Next, Stefan Bergh, Vice-President and Chair of the Committee of Development, presented his report. ‘More membership affiliation atFISUis a result of the structured work of the CDSU’, Mr. Bergh said. ‘Ten associations have applied for membership. Many wouldn’t been here without the collaboration we had with the continentals.’
FISU Treasurer Bayasgalan presented his report stressingFISU’s continued effort to expand the university sports movement across regional and continental levels, offering financial grants to the Continental Federations on a continuous basis. He was succeeded on the floor by Mr. Gagea, theFISUInternal Auditor, who provided his report.
After the admission of the new member associations – Anguila, Liechtenstein, Lesotho, Mali, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Syria, Swaziland, Zambia– the EC was discharged for the period 2009-2011. Before the lunch break the budget was adopted and the membership subscription fee was fixed to 10€ per year.
