
LJUBLJANA – The Rector of the National University of Physical Education and Sport, prof. dr. Viorel Cojocaru, awarded today Mr Alberto Gualtieri, President of the European University Sport Association (EUSA) with Doctor Honoris Causa, a honorary doctorate for his extraordinary achievements in the field of university sports. The ceremony took place at the National University of Physical Education and Sport in Bucharest, Romania.
In the presence of the senate members, the laudation was given by prof. dr. Adrian Gagea, Director of Interdisciplinary Research Centre and FISU Auditor since 1991. After the laudator’s speech the Doctor Honoris Causa Diploma was presented to Mr Alberto Gualtieri by prof. dr. Viorel Cojocaru, the Rector of the National University of Physical Education and Sport. “We are proud to award the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa to Mr Gualtieri for his commitment, professionalism and contribution to the development of the university sport on a world level,” he added.
In his address to the senate, Mr Gualtieri spoke on the values in the university sports and at the end thanked for the big honour given. “I am very proud to receive the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the National University of Physical Education and Sport, from an institution which has always maintained physical education and sports values” concluded Gualtieri.
The National University of Physical Education and Sport (UNESF) was founded on 1 December 1922 in Bucharest and obtained the status of a university in 2002. UNEFS is one of the major physical education and sport institutions in Eastern Europe. Among those who have graduated from the university are also many famous coaches, managers and sports people, such as Laura Badea, Gabriela Szabo, Elisabeta Lipă and many others. Mr Gualtieri is the third person to receive the honorary title from UNESF. Before, this honour was given to Mr Primo Nebiolo, former FISU President and Mr Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee.
