2013 SU Update: City Directorate of 7th Asian Winter Games visits Future SU Host

KAZAN ‘Tatarstan can teach us a lesson or two.’ These are the words of Asian Winter Games OC Director Nail Nurov said during the meeting with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate. The meeting was held within the framework of the 2011 Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee delegation’s visit to Kazan. The two OCs have established a close cooperation and regularly pay official visits to each other.

The Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate delegates travelled before to the 2011 Asian Winter Games that took place on January 30-February 6 2011 in Kazakhstan. Kazan 2013 Director General Vladimir Leonov took part in the Torch Relay that preceded the Opening Ceremony of the Games. In the course of the visit the parties agreed that the 2011 Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee delegates would pay a return visit to Kazan to share their experience in preparation and delivery of such a large-scale sporting event.

Nail Nurov also stated that the Asian Games and 2013 Summer Universiade have much in common. For his part, Vladimir Leonov noted that the visit of their Kazakhstan colleagues was really important for a positive experience exchange. “You are our teachers in a way, the teachers that have already staged such a grand sporting event,” he said. Vladimir Leonov also thanked the 2011 Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee for a warm welcome during the trip to Kazakhstan. “The top-level organization of the Asian Games strongly impressed me”, he added.

Nail Nurov replied that the Asian Games had been first of all a festival organized for Kazakhstan citizens. “It’s important for us to involve as much youth in sports as possible”, he summed up.

On the second day of their visit to Kazan the City Directorate of the 7th Asian Winter Games held a working meeting with the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate representatives

In his speech Director of the Asian Winter Games Organizing Committee Nail Nurov underlined that the 2011 Asian Games had become the first sporting event of such magnitude staged in Kazakhstan and held the same significance as the 2013 Summer Universiade did for Kazan. He also pointed out the key stages of preparation and delivery of the multi-sport event. “Our key events were decision to stage the Games in Kazakhstan, Asian Games flag transfer, launch of the digital information board, Torch Relay, Opening and Closing Ceremonies”, he stated.

In the course of the meeting the delegates also gave an overview of managing and delivering the Asian Winter Games Torch Relay. Apart from that, the representatives from Kazakhstan gave a detailed presentation of the Opening Ceremony that had been directed by the creative team of the famous Russian composer and producer Igor Krutoy. “We are proud that all performers at the Ceremony were from Kazakhstan”, Nail Nurov added.

The meeting also saw discussion of the Cultural Asian Games. As Cultural Events Department Director Erbol Dzhailaulov stated, the Cultural Asian Games had included seven projects such as a fine arts exhibition, World of Nomads Ethnic-Cultural Show, Physics of Victory Photo Exhibition, Winged Future of Kazakhstan Classical Music Concert, sportswear and sports equipment exposition, Awarding Ceremony of winners of the International Arts and Essay Competition, Musical Pearl of Asia Show. Nail Nurov especially pointed out the World of Nomads Ethnic-Cultural Show as the most significant project for attracting tourists to the culture of Kazakhstan.

The Sochi 2014 Organzing Committee delegates also arrived in Kazan to join the meeting held between the City Directorate of the 7th Asian Winter Games, Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Tatarstan Customs Service. In the course of the event the Kazakhstan delegates gave an overview of the customs tariffs during the 7th Asian Winter Games.
