KAZAN – A Welcome Day of the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was held in the Burevestnik Swimming Pool. The purpose of the event was to inform applicants about admission requirements and terms of education at the Academy.
The Welcome Day saw attendance of the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Sports and Tourism of Tatarstan Khalil Shaikhutdinov, Chairman of the Physical Culture and Sports Committee of the Kazan Executive Committee Ilgiz Fakhriev, Rector of Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism Yusup Yakubov and First Deputy Director General of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Azat Kadyrov.
In his welcome speech Yusup Yakubov stated that the Academy already comprised newly constructed sports venues such as the Ak Bars Wrestling Palace, Tennis Academy, Zilant Sports Complex, Burevestnik Indoor Swimming Pool, and venues under construction, namely the Gymnastics Centre, Rowing Centre and Aquatic Centre would be handed over to the Academy in 2011.
Dean of the Department of Physical Culture and Secretary of the Admission Committee Yury Boltikov informed the audience about departments and special fields of education, admission requirements and entrance exams.
Guests of the event enjoyed performances delivered by outstanding students of the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism – winners of synchronized swimming competitions, masters of sports in artistic gymnastics and sports acrobatics, and also best dance couples of the Dance Sport Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate and MegaFon, General Partner of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, organized special contest games for applicants to the Academy and their parents.
The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was established by the Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation in 2010 under the aegies of Kama Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism in Naberezhnye Chelny. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on August 2nd, 2010 and featured Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation Pavel Novikov and Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin.
