2013 SU Update: Kazan Delegates volunteer in Sochi

SOCHI The Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate representatives volunteered during the Alpine Ski European Cup in Sochi. The Tatarstan delegation also comprised Kazan 2013 volunteers that study in universities and institutes of the host city of the 2013 Summer Universiade.

The first test events in Sochi were organized by the International Ski Federation, Ministry of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Russian Federation, Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Krasnodar Territory, Alpine Ski and Snowboard Federation of Russia, National Alpine Ski League of Russia.

The Kazan 2013 representatives became members of the Organizing Committee and served as chaperones of national delegations, volunteers of doping station and press centre. Notably, the Kazan 2013 volunteers studied international accreditation rules, work of access zones, internet service for media, volunteers, athletes and spectators. Moreover, Kazan’s delegates exchanged their experience with other Russian volunteers from Sochi, Krasnodar, Saint Petersburg and Tomsk.

“It was essential to us to study volunteers’ management at the European Cup. Especially as far as team leadership system and areas of responsibility are concerned. Transport was well organized here both for volunteers and participants of the European Cup. Provision of volunteers and managers of the event with mobile phones is worth mentioning as well”, said Riat Ismagilov, leading specialist of the Kazan 2013 Executive Directorate Volunteers Department.

In his speech at the final press conference Vladimir Shishkin, Executive Director of the Alpine Ski and Snowboard Federation of Russia, was proud to say that the managers of the event had succeeded to build a unique dream team. He also mentioned that there had been nearly 7,000 people accredited for the event including spectators and about 2,000 vehicles.

The managers’ cooperation was highly estimated by Mitter Wolfgang, head referee of the European Cup. “Our teamwork was successful. I’d like to mark the volunteers’ work. The whole world was watching test events in Sochi. I was highly honored to work with Russia. I hope that the World Cup which is expected to be held here next year will have the same success”, the head referee said.

It stands to mention that during the first test event in Sochi the Tatarstan delegation presented the 2013 Summer Universiade to volunteers of the Alpine Ski European Cup. The Kazan 2013 volunteers introduced young people to history, mission and order of staging the World University Summer Games in Kazan, and also the Kazan 2013 volunteers training program.
