Technical Meeting
TORINO – Yesterday, Sunday October 24th, the airport of Torino welcomed the arriving delegations coming to participate in the 9th edition of the World University Wrestling Championship in Torino, Italy which will start on October 26th.
An official dinner was held by the CUS Torino President, Riccardo d’Elicio, with attendance of Mrs. Giovanna Capellano Nebiolo, the widow of the late Honorary President Primo Nebiolo; FILA Secretary-General Michel Dusson; the President of CUSI Leonardo Coiana, and Matteo Pelikone, President of the Italian Wrestling Federation FIJLKAM.
For sure we will overpass the number of 30 countries participants from 2006 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. 27 countries were present at the last edition in 2008 in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Up to now, we can already count on the participation of Austria, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Rep., Croatia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Mongolia, Norway, Poland, Russia, Switzerland ,Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine and USA.
The total number of countries and participants must still be confirmed by the CIC delegate, Mr. Mezziane Hasnaoui, still accrediting a lot of participants.
This morning was dedicated for Mr. Sinisa Jasnic, Executive Committee delegate and Chair CTI World University Championships, and Nicole Mangelschots, Executive Assistant WUC, to visit the different accommodations chosen for the delegations. Indeed, due to the success in participation for this event, participants had to be lodged in 4 different hotels: Campanile Hotel, Hotel Interporto, Euro Motel and Hotel Parisi.
The CTI Chair, Mr.Ibrahim Cicioglu and Dr. Roland Questel, Medical Delegate, also had meeting, before checking until noon, the final entries for Freestyle wrestlers in 55-66-84 and 120 category, followed by the Technical Meeting at 2pm, where the technical commission was composed.
A CISCA meeting, directed by Sinisa Jasnic and attended by the President of the Organizing Committee Riccardo d’Elicio; the President of CUSI Leonardo Coiana and the International Relations and Protocol Manager Silvia Bini, was held.
At 4pm, the Referees Meeting was organized followed by the medical examination and weigh-in of the athletes.
It must be remembered that the City of Torino already held several FISU events, since the first Summer Universiade in 1959. More recently, Torino has organized the WUC Cross-country in 2004, the WUC Golf in 2006 and the Winter Universiade in 2007.
We can be more than confident that this event will for sure be a success thanks to the experience of CUS Torino and CUSI.
