The FISU Executive Committee meets in Erzurum, Turkey – host city for the 2011 Winter Universiade – from November 13th to 14th, 2009.
The EC meeting is hosted on campus of the Atatürk University, where also the Athletes’ Village will be located for the next Winter Universiade.
As FISU President George E. Killian underwent an important knee surgery, rehabilitation of his knee prevented him from extensive travel and he was unable to preside the EC meeting in Erzurum. Therefore this EC meeting was chaired by 1st Vice-President Claude-Louis Gallien.
The first day of the meeting started traditionally with the approval of the report of the previous meeting in Belgrade and the reports of the President, Treasurer and Secretary-General giving an update of the management of our federation. Mr. Gallien also reported the conclusions of the Steering Committee meeting which took place the previous day.

Development Committee
Stefan Bergh, Chair of the Development Committee (CDSU) summarized the CDSU activities of the previous months. Mr. Bergh reminded the FISU Board of the strategic approach of the CDSU. Between 2007 and 2009 the Continental Federations submitted 45 projects which were evaluated by the Committee. The projects addressed a number of key areas, such as competitions, seminars, General Assembly, administrative and IT support. The CDSU Chair emphasized the importance to improve the administrative approach and how to enhance FISU membership development. He also notified the Board for the need to revise the foreseen project with UNESCO. For the period of 2012-2013 each Continental Federation will initiate one gender related project.
Women’s Committee
Women’s Committee Chair Verena Burk focused on two topics, i.e. the 2010 FISU Forum and a Women’s Committee Network within FISU. For the Forum in Vigo a sub-theme Women’s Sport was added to the program with as topic ‘Women’s Leadership in (University) Sport’. Regarding an expanding network for the Committee, a Liaison person for the WC/gender issues within the Continental Federations was appointed, where Mrs. Burk explained the role description for these liaison persons. These persons are:

FASU: Mrs. Helena Williams (Ghana)
ODUPA: Mrs. Rosaura Mendez (Costa Rica)
OUSA: Mrs. Karen Nelson (Samoa)
CIP Committee
International Press Committee Chair Leonz Eider gave an overview of the meeting in Belgrade in the presence of Gianni Merlo, AIPS President. Mr; Eider elaborated on the newsletter, the new tool of the Media Department. Vice-Chair Verena Burk talked about the creation of the editorial board for the Magazine, which will be composed of CIP and Staff members. Next issues of the Magazine will include more info on the Continental Federations, educational services, gender issues and the NUSFs. FISU will be present at the 2010 AIPS Congress in Antalya, Turkey to promote the 2011 WU in Erzurum. CIP also plans a joint FISU & AIPS seminar for young journalists from around the globe during the 2011 SU in Shenzhen. The concept of the seminar will be further defined.
Education
Alison Odell gave an overview of the 2009 FISU Conference with the declaration of Belgrade as one of the great things to come out of this Conference. 76 presentations, 12 keynote speakers and 120 participants attributed to the success of the event as the evaluation forms reflect a high satisfaction of the participants. Mrs. Odell also gave an update of the 2010 FISU Forum in Vigo, where the OC is a successful partnership between the city and the university. The main theme of the Forum will be ‘University Sport, a Platform for Change’, whereas the following sub-themes where defined:
– ‘Development of Strategic Plans in University Sport at the National Level’;
– ‘Education and Environmental Awareness through University Sport’;
– ‘Women’s Leadership and Sport’;
– ‘University Sport and Academic Recognition’.
Korean Bid for Taekwondo (2012)World University Championships
After lunch, the afternoon session was devoted to the sports on the FISU World University Championship program.
Mr. Sinisa Jasnic, CTI Chair for the World University Champions presented his report. In his report Mr. Jasnic expressed his satisfaction with the FISU Seminar for the WUC from December 11th to 12th, 2009 at the FISU HQ in Brussels, giving the opportunity to meet the 2010 WUCOCs as well as the CTI Chairs concerned by those WUC. The main aim of this seminar will be to inform the Organizers about the technical aspects, as well as the obligations and duties of each OC, the explanation of the FISU structure and the exchange of experience within the different organizations.
Finnish bid for wrestling
Director for the WUC Laurent Briel gave an update of the different WUCs for 2010. Then the floor was given to the bidding candidates for the 2012 WUC.
