University Sport of Samoa (USS) convened its General Assembly on April 1 this year. Karen Nelson was elected president and Elena Peteru was elected Secretary General/Treasurer. The meeting programme development for the coming 2 years and the expansion of membership. Currently, USS members include 6 institutions, including National University of Samoa and University of the South Pacific Alafua Campus. A number of non-traditional educational institutions exist in Samoa, and the board hopes to tap into some of these institutions to add to its growing numbers.
Last year, USS offered its first national sport day with over 300 athletes competing in Touch Rugby and Volleyball. USS is looking to expand this year’s calendar to include sport recreation nights for students in sports such as badminton, table tennis and indoor soccer. Additional national sport competitions will be scheduled for rugby, volleyball, netball and soccer.
