The first World University World Skate Sports Championships occurred on the rinks and roads of Taipei City, Chinese Taipei, in 2018. The World Skate Sports rink and roads of Taipei City were familiar to many athletes as the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade included World Skate Sports among its events.

The History of World Skate Sports in FISU
World Skate Sports made its FISU debut during the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade as an optional sport.
The multiday event programme tests World Skate Sports athletes across a range of disciplines, with events as short as 200 meters to as long as the marathon (42.2 kilometers) in length. In addition to timed races against the clock, competitions include points and elimination races, sprint tournaments and relays.
