The Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic sport that comprises five different events: fencing, 200m freestyle swimming, show jumping, and a final combined event of pistol shooting and a 3200m cross-country run. The sport has been added to the World University Championships sports programme with the inaugural WUC in Budapest, Hungary in 2018.

The History of Modern Pentathlon in FISU

Modern Pentathlon has been included in 2014 as a new sport of FISU. In 2015 the first international Modern Pentathlon university competition was successfully organized in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The 1st Modern Pentathlon FISU World University Championships will be held in the summer of 2018. Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has been named as host city.

 

Modern Pentathlon is one of the original Olympic sports, consisting of fencing, swimming, horse riding and running combined with laser shooting, It is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world and its reach has expanded in recent years to embrace all five continents. The competition formats include individual, team and mixed-relay competitions.
