The fast-paced, non-contact sport of Korfball enters the FISU World University Championships for the first time in 2018. A dynamic cross between Netball, Basketball and Handball, Korfball is the only mixed-sex team ball sport in the world.
From 8-12 August 2018 the city of Vila Real, Portugal will play host to the best university korfballers in the world. Teams are comprised of eight players with four females and four males. The fluidity of the game where defenders and attackers regularly swap positions makes Korfball particularly well suited for university athletes.
In anticipation for the inclusion of Korfball to the World University Championship programme, FISU endorsed the first-ever Korfball University World Cup in 2015. Holland, the inventors of Korfball in 1902, won the test event. Look for the strong Dutch team to be challenged by Chinese Taipei, Great Britain, Turkey and the People's Republic of China for the World University Korfball Championship crown.
