The 1st World University Bridge Championship took place in 2002 in Bruges, Belgium, and welcomed 65 players from 13 countries. Since then, seven other editions took place on two continents, attracting around 100 participants per edition. The 8th World University Bridge Championship took place in Lodz (POL) in 2016.
