Official attribution of the 2020 World University Championships

Championships 1 December 2017

LAUSANNE – Following a year of bidding procedures and official bid presentations in Lausanne last October, FISU is proud to announce its hosts for the 29th season of World University Championships. A total of 36 candidate cities presented dossiers for the 26 events available.

Of the events attributed, FISU welcomes three new NUSFs to the hosting family – Argentina, Morocco and Ukraine.  Events will take place in America, Europe, Africa and Asia. Also, 2020 will be the inaugural year for the new cluster events – mind sports and combat spots – which combine two and six sports, respectively. The interest in both cluster events ensures that these will quickly grow to be popular and successful events.

As always, FISU thanks all the NUSFs who made efforts to build and present their candidatures. They contribute to the success of the University Sport Movement and offer opportunities to our best student athletes to compete in 2020.
