He also helped lead Team USA to the Gold Medal in the 3rd World University Baseball Championship in Havana, Cuba in 2006 and Southbridge High School in Oregon to its first-ever state championship in 2003.

The right-handed batter and thrower has quickly risen through the Cubs minor league system, reaching Iowa by the middle point of the 2009 campaign. Barney will become the 15th rookie to appear for the Cubs this season and the ninth to make his major league debut.
