People interested in joining the volunteer team can register through the Swiss Volunteers platform to be part of the 30th FISU winter Universiade, the world’s largest winter multisport event for university student-athletes, that will take place in central Switzerland and the Grisons on 11-21 December.

The Organising Committee of Lucerne 2021 will need the help of its volunteers before, during and after the event at its various competition venues as well as in the host city of Lucerne.

“A sports event of this magnitude depends on the commitment of the volunteers, who also play a very important role as a link to our guests from over 50 nations,” explains Managing Director Urs Hunkeler“After all the things we have missed out on in recent times, volunteering at the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade is a great opportunity to put yourself back at the heart of the action and experience all of the emotions up close.

The Head of Volunteers Giuliana Schmid describes the diverse areas in which volunteers can expect to take part. They could find themselves reporting on the competitions, looking after the teams or helping with catering, to point out a few examples.

As well as individuals, clubs can apply for volunteer roles too, which can offer the chance for groups of people to enjoy this unique experience as an already established team. This could also be the perfect occasion to create an even stronger bond between members of club, who may not have been able to see each other as often as they would have liked to because of the restrictions linked to the current pandemic. “We are very grateful that we can also count on the commitment of clubs from the local region,” says Giuliana Schmid.

As a token of appreciation, the volunteers who are able to offer at least five days of their spare time will be able to keep a high-quality Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade uniform as a souvenir.
