There are just 100 days left before the 30th edition of the Winter Universiade in Lucerne. The event will be held from 11 to 21 December 2021 and will take place in Central Switzerland and the Grisons to accommodate the various winter sports of the international competition. To mark the 100-day countdown, the Organising Committee of Lucerne 2021 released the event’s official song “Flying High”, a student project from the Schwyz University of Teacher Education.
The “Flying High” project was led by music teachers Hansjörg Römer and Philipp Seeholzer, with the collaboration of sound designer Ralph Zünd and a student from Schwyz University of Teacher Education, Fabienne Bodmer. Caroline Chevin, who is a well-known soul singer from Schwyz, assisted the team to produce the lyrics of the song. “When the big day comes, athletes need to be ready to give it their all – to fly high so to speak,” Römer explains, “that is how we came up with the title.”
“We wanted a song to motivate the athletes at the Winter Universiade to achieve their best performance,” says Fabienne Meyerhans, Head of Marketing & Sponsoring of the 30th Winter Universiade. “We also wanted a song that arouses the emotions of the crowd at the Universiade Park and the various competition venues.”
The 30th Winter Universiade will be held as a joint project between the six cantons of Central Switzerland and the Grisons: Uri, Schwyz, Obwalden, Niwalden, Zug and the city of Lucerne. The event will use 8 different locations to host 10 sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, freestyle & freeski, figure skating, ice hockey, snowboard, ski orienteering and short track speed skating. The competition will reunite around 1600 students from more than 540 universities in 50 countries and is the largest winter multisport event for student-athletes.
